Peshawar High Court Orders PTA to Remove Immoral Content from TikTok

Peshawar: The Peshawar High Court has directed the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to remove all immoral content from TikTok and to activate the Social Media Regulatory Authority to curb such material.

During the hearing of a petition against immoral content being shared on TikTok, a two-member bench comprising Justice Sahibzada Asadullah and Justice Dr. Khurshid Iqbal observed that inappropriate activities are taking place on TikTok, especially during live sessions and games.

The petitioner’s counsel argued that social media platforms are being used to spread immoral material. In response, PTA’s lawyer informed the court that the authority blocks illegal content and has created portals for complaints regarding unethical content.

After reviewing the arguments, the court ordered PTA to ensure the removal of immoral content from TikTok and directed that the Social Media Regulatory Authority be made fully functional to prevent the circulation of such content.
