Sharjeel Memon Responds to MQM Criticism: “Our Work Speaks for Itself”

KARACHI: Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has rejected criticism from MQM-P, asserting that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has empowered local governments more than any other political party in the country.

Reacting to remarks by MQM leader Haider Abbas Rizvi, Memon said that if MQM wanted, PPP was even willing to introduce the *Lahore-style local government system* in Karachi. He pointed out the irony of MQM praising Punjab’s local government model when local bodies elections have not even been held there.

### **“Karachi is Sindh’s heart — top priority for PPP”**

Memon emphasized that **billions of rupees are being invested** in Karachi’s urban infrastructure and essential services. He said the Sindh government is actively working to improve civic facilities, despite attempts to create obstacles.

He accused MQM of contributing to social disharmony in Karachi, a multi-ethnic city that requires unity and development-focused politics.

### **MQM failed where PPP delivered, says Memon**

Sharjeel Memon criticized MQM for ignoring urban services during its years in power.
“Had they focused on infrastructure, education, health, water supply, and sanitation, no one would be pointing fingers at them today,” he remarked.

He highlighted major PPP-led development projects in Karachi, including:

* **EV Bus Service**
* **People’s Bus Service**
* **Pink Bus Service**
* **Shahrah-e-Bhutto**
* **Taj Haider Bridge**
* **Pink Scooties Scheme**
* **BRT corridors**

“These are projects MQM could have launched too—but they lacked the intent,” Memon said.

Reiterating his stance, he added: **“Our work speaks for itself. Karachi’s development is visible and ongoing. MQM is only trying to create hurdles.”**
