Karachi: Father Allegedly Takes Son to Iran After Marital Dispute, Court Orders Interior Ministry to Provide Details

KARACHI: Following a domestic dispute, a man allegedly took his 10-year-old son to Iran under false pretenses, prompting the Sindh High Court to order the federal interior secretary to provide information regarding the whereabouts of the father and son.

The petition was filed by Farah Zafar, who claimed that her husband, Mirza Zafar-ul-Hassan, abducted their son, Mirza Azfar Baig, and took him to Iran. Her counsel, Advocate Sohail Hameed, informed the court that on September 8, the court had ordered the blocking of the passports of both the father and the child. However, the Ministry of Interior failed to implement the court’s directive.

The court had earlier instructed that the child be produced and allowed to meet his mother through a bailiff. Expressing displeasure over the non-compliance, the Sindh High Court remarked that the conduct of the federal interior ministry was “in no way commendable.”

The court has now instructed the federal interior secretary to inform the court of the current location of the father and the child. It warned that failure to comply with the court’s orders would result in legal action against the responsible officials.
