Heated National Assembly Session: Mahmood Khan Achakzai Tears Copies of 27th Constitutional Amendment, Rejects Speaker’s Dialogue Offer

ISLAMABAD: Tensions flared in the National Assembly during the debate on the **27th Constitutional Amendment**, as **nominated opposition leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai** tore copies of the amendment and rejected **Speaker Ayaz Sadiq’s** offer for dialogue.

Under the chairmanship of Speaker Sadiq, government and opposition members presented their positions on the proposed constitutional changes. Speaking on the floor, Achakzai said, *“The path of public sovereignty in Pakistan is being blocked. Today, we are deeply saddened by this undemocratic type of amendment in the Constitution. The battle between democratic and non-democratic forces has now entered its final round.”*

Barrister Gohar stated, *“We have never closed the doors of dialogue. Our founder had also emphasized negotiation. Mr. Achakzai was also given a mandate to engage in discussions.”*

Speaker Sadiq once again invited the opposition for talks, stating, *“The Prime Minister has formed a High-Power Committee, and the Law Minister has also offered dialogue. I am personally ready to act as a facilitator.”* However, Achakzai firmly responded, *“We cannot talk to you because you are not a genuine representative.”*

The Speaker countered, *“I have defeated your leader twice to reach here, and there is no petition against me. You are essentially using dialogue as an excuse to avoid engagement.”*

According to sources, the government intends to pass the **27th Constitutional Amendment** in the lower house later today.
