40% of Pakistanis Support Second Marriage, While 60% Oppose: Gallup Survey

Islamabad:A new Gallup Pakistan survey has revealed that **40% of Pakistanis** support the idea of a man entering into a **second marriage**, while **60%** oppose it altogether.
According to the findings, those in favor of second marriages believe that **men with sufficient financial means** should be allowed to marry again. However, a majority of respondents disagreed, saying that such permission should not be granted under any circumstances.
The survey highlighted significant gender differences:
* **50% of men** and **30% of women** expressed support for second marriages.
* **72% of respondents** said maintaining **fair treatment between two wives** is difficult or impossible.
* Only **26%** believed fairness is possible, while **59% of men** said it cannot be achieved.
When asked **under what conditions a second marriage should be permitted**, the responses were as follows:
* **39%** said it should be allowed **if a couple has no children**.
* **15%** emphasized the need for a husband’s **ability to treat both wives equally**.
* **10%** said **permission from the first wife** should be mandatory.
Gallup Pakistan stated that the survey included participants from both **urban and rural areas** across the country.
