Balochistan Chief Secretary Highlights Government’s Measures to Curb Impact of Climate Change and Natural Disasters

Quetta:Balochistan Chief Secretary **Shakeel Qadir Khan** has said that climate change is becoming an increasingly serious global issue, with the growing intensity of natural disasters deeply affecting both human life and the economy. He emphasized that the **provincial government has initiated several key measures** to prevent and mitigate the effects of these disasters, aimed at ensuring the safety and stability of citizens across the province.

Speaking at an event organized by the **Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA)** in connection with the **“International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction,”** the Chief Secretary said that a **comprehensive and sustainable strategy** has been developed at the provincial level to tackle natural calamities. “These efforts are not only helping us meet current challenges but are also laying a strong foundation for the welfare of the people and the province’s long-term resilience,” he stated.

He added that the government’s goal is to provide every citizen with access to a **safe environment and disaster protection services**, reducing potential damage from natural hazards. “These initiatives will strengthen public confidence, promote development, and mark a milestone toward making Balochistan a safer and more stable region,” he noted.

Highlighting the importance of **awareness and preparedness**, the Chief Secretary said the day serves as a reminder to stay ready for **floods, earthquakes, and other natural risks** to minimize both human and financial losses. He stressed the need for **well-organized rescue operations** and **public awareness campaigns** to help citizens protect themselves during emergencies.

He further said that this year’s global message emphasizes the importance of **pre-disaster preparedness rather than post-disaster reaction**. The Chief Secretary directed the PDMA to focus on **long-term planning and policy development** and proposed the establishment of **Rescue 1122 services in every district**, to later expand to the tehsil level, ensuring swift and effective response during emergencies.
