Surge in Extortion Cases Sparks Fear Among Traders; Karachi Chamber Issues Security Advisory

Karachi: A sudden rise in **extortion incidents** has triggered a **wave of fear among Karachi’s business community**, prompting the **Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI)** to issue a **warning letter** to its members, urging them to take immediate security precautions.
According to the letter, **several traders have received extortion notes accompanied by bullets**, a development that poses a **serious threat to both the business community and the city’s overall law and order**.
The extortion demands reportedly involve **large sums of money**, which has caused widespread **panic and insecurity** among business owners.
In the letter, the **KCCI Secretary General** advised all members to **install high-quality CCTV cameras** at both their **business premises and residences**, along with adequate **backup storage systems** to ensure continuous surveillance.
The Chamber also directed that in the event of any **untoward incident**, the **CCTV footage should be shared with the Chamber**, which will then forward it to the **relevant law enforcement authorities** with concrete evidence to facilitate swift action.
The KCCI emphasized that this initiative aims to help **track down and apprehend those involved in such heinous crimes**, ensuring **better protection for the city’s traders and businesses**.
