Powerful 6.9-Magnitude Earthquake Rocks Central Philippines, Leaves 31 Dead

Manila:A powerful **6.9-magnitude earthquake** struck the central coastal region of the Philippines late Sunday night, causing widespread devastation, foreign media reported.
According to the **U.S. Geological Survey (USGS)**, the quake hit at around **10 p.m. local time**, with a depth of 10 kilometers. Its epicenter was located about 17 kilometers northeast of **Bogo City**.
Authorities confirmed that at least **31 people were killed** and dozens more injured in incidents triggered by the tremor. Several **aftershocks** were also felt, forcing terrified residents to flee their homes.
Witnesses and local reports said the quake caused multiple buildings to collapse. A **sports complex hosting a basketball game** caved in, while several **churches, bridges, and roads** sustained heavy damage.
Officials in **Cebu province** declared a **state of emergency** and ordered the closure of schools and government offices on Monday. Rescue operations are underway to save people trapped under the rubble, with heavy machinery being dispatched from nearby regions.
Disaster management authorities reported that the quake also disrupted **power supply and communication networks**, complicating relief efforts. Emergency teams have been instructed to dispatch **water, medicines, and other essential supplies** to affected areas.
