Finance Minister Welcomes Resolution of Rs. 1,225 Billion Circular Debt in Energy Sector

Islamabad:Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, has hailed the successful resolution of **Rs. 1,225 billion circular debt in the power sector**, calling it a major breakthrough in addressing one of Pakistan’s most pressing and longstanding challenges.

In an official statement, the Finance Ministry welcomed the achievement, emphasizing that it will not only ensure **financial discipline** but also enhance **investor confidence** in Pakistan’s energy sector.

The historic restructuring was made possible through the joint efforts of the **Prime Minister’s Task Force on Power**, led by Federal Energy Minister Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, with the active support of Senator Aurangzeb, PM’s Advisor on Privatization Muhammad Ali, National Coordinator Lt. Gen. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, State Bank Governor Jameel Ahmad, Finance Secretary Imdadullah Bosal, as well as the **Pakistan Banks Association (PBA)** and 18 partner banks.

The ministry noted that this success demonstrates the strength of **institutional collaboration and teamwork**, showcasing how coordinated efforts can solve deep-rooted structural problems in Pakistan’s energy sector.
