ECC Approves Commercial Import of Used Cars Until 2026

ISLAMABAD: The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the federal cabinet has approved the commercial import of used cars, allowing vehicles less than five years old to be imported until **June 30, 2026**.
The decision was taken during a virtual meeting chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Finance. After the cut-off date, the age restriction on vehicles will be lifted.
The ECC announcement stated that imported cars will be required to meet environmental and safety standards. A **40% regulatory duty** will apply on used cars less than five years old, which will be reduced by 10% each year starting 2026. By the fiscal year **2029-30**, the import duty will be fully phased out.
Additionally, the committee approved a grant of **Rs 800 million** for the Pakistan Vanaspati Manufacturers Association (PVMA).
