NADRA Announces Pakistan Origin Card to Reconnect Overseas Pakistanis with Their Homeland

Islamabad – The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has launched the Pakistan Origin Card (POC) program, designed to help foreign nationals of Pakistani descent reconnect with their homeland while enjoying a range of exclusive privileges.

The POC allows holders multiple visa-free entries into Pakistan, unlimited stays without police reporting, the right to purchase and manage property, and the ability to open bank accounts. Cardholders can also avail of fast-track immigration clearance and use the POC as valid identification in place of a national ID card. Additionally, it provides employment opportunities within Pakistan.

A special version, the **Smart POC**, caters to individuals who have renounced their Pakistani citizenship—or whose parents did—and now hold citizenship in countries that do not have a dual nationality agreement with Pakistan. Foreign spouses of Pakistani citizens are also eligible.

Applicants may include former Pakistani citizens, foreign nationals of Pakistani origin, or spouses of current or former Pakistani nationals. However, citizens of India, Israel, Taiwan, unrecognized states, and enemy countries are ineligible.

Currently, Pakistan has dual nationality agreements with 21 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, and Australia. Applications for the Smart POC can be submitted through the **Pak ID mobile app**, covering new applications, renewals, modifications, and cancellations.

The initiative is being hailed as a major step to strengthen ties between Pakistan and its diaspora, making it easier for overseas Pakistanis and their families to remain connected without bureaucratic hurdles.
