FBR to Launch Crackdown on Social Media Show-Offs of Wealth

ISLAMABAD:The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has decided to take action against individuals flaunting their wealth on social media platforms, sources revealed on Friday.

According to reports, the tax authority has compiled data of hundreds of thousands of such individuals and, in the first phase, will audit 100,000 wealthy persons.

Sources said that non-filers who spend extravagantly on weddings will also face scrutiny. Cases include individuals wearing suits worth \$20,000 at wedding events, as well as those showcasing luxury bungalows, cars, and jewelry. Such people will be required to justify their sources of income.

The FBR also plans to compare tax returns filed last year with those submitted this year to detect discrepancies, sources added.
