Flood Worsens in Jalalpur Pirwala, Motorway M-5 Closed for Traffic

MULTAN: The flood situation has turned severe in Jalalpur Pirwala, forcing the closure of Motorway M-5 for all kinds of traffic.

According to the spokesperson of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), floodwater erosion has raised concerns of breaching the motorway. PDMA Punjab, the National Highway Authority (NHA), and local administration are taking measures to protect the motorway, using sandbags and stones to reinforce vulnerable points.

Officials stated that water levels in Jalalpur Pirwala are expected to recede within the next 24 hours. Across Punjab, river flows are also decreasing rapidly, with water discharge at Panjnad dropping to 392,000 cusecs, while Guddu Barrage recorded 627,000 cusecs.

The motorway police have diverted traffic through alternative routes. Northbound traffic is being redirected from Uch Sharif, Jhangra, and Jalalpur interchanges, while southbound vehicles are being diverted via Shah Shams, Sher Shah, and Shujaabad South routes.
