Flood Threatens Urban Embankment in Multan’s Jalalpur Tehsil

Multan:The flood situation in **Jalalpur Tehsil** has worsened as the **urban protective embankment**, considered the last shield for the city, is now under severe threat. Authorities are deploying **cranes and heavy machinery** to strengthen the structure in an attempt to prevent a disaster.

The relentless floodwaters breached the **Awami Bund** and **Shah Rasool Wala protective bund**, advancing towards the urban embankment that safeguards Jalalpur. Several localities have been completely submerged, including **Shahni Miani, Khan Bela, Kot Imam Din, Darab Pur, Karamon Wali, Shujaat Pur, Bet Mughal, Jhanbu Wala, Umar Pur, Manak Wali, and Shahpur Lama**.

Residents have urgently appealed to the administration to ensure the urban embankment’s safety, warning that its breach could inundate the city.

To ease pressure, authorities diverted floodwaters by demolishing small bridges along the **Uch Sharif Road**, directing water toward surrounding villages. Despite these measures, the disaster has already affected **64 localities and hundreds of settlements**.

Deputy Commissioner Jalalpur confirmed that **evacuation operations are underway with the support of the Pakistan Army**, moving people to safer areas.

The crisis is compounded as **both the Ravi and Chenab rivers** converge in **Shahpur Lama and Bet Qaisar**, intensifying destruction across the tehsil.
