From Tailor’s Son to Bollywood’s Top Villain: The Inspiring Journey of Shakti Kapoor

Mumbai: Success in Bollywood is never easy, but with determination and a bit of luck, anyone can rise from humble beginnings to achieve stardom. The story of Shakti Kapoor is a perfect example of this. The child in this image, seen on the right, had a different fate in mind despite his father’s wishes.

His father, a tailor by profession, wanted Shakti to follow in his footsteps. However, Shakti had bigger dreams. He moved to Mumbai to carve out a career in the film industry. By leaving behind his father’s dreams and chasing his own, Shakti worked hard and made a name for himself as one of Bollywood’s most iconic villains, earning recognition as “Crime Master Gogo.”

Do you know who this child grew up to be? He is none other than the famous Bollywood actor Shakti Kapoor.

At 72 years old, Shakti Kapoor began his career in 1977 with the film *Khel Khiladi*. His birth name was Sunil Sunderlal Kapoor, but due to the presence of a big star with the same name in the industry, he decided to change it.

Hailing from the renowned area of Karol Bagh in Delhi, Shakti’s father ran a tailoring business. His father had hoped that Shakti would take over the family business, but Shakti had other plans. His father wasn’t too keen on the idea of him joining the film industry, and his mother, in particular, disapproved of his roles as a villain. Whenever Shakti portrayed a negative character, his mother would leave the theater in distress and later express her displeasure with him.

In the early days of his career, Shakti took on minor roles in films and even earned ₹13,000 from a commercial. However, his real breakthrough came with the film *Qurbani*, which proved to be a turning point in his career. The film, which also starred prominent actors like Vinod Khanna, Amrish Puri, Zeenat Aman, and Amjad Khan, was a massive box office success, grossing around ₹25 crores with a budget of only ₹2.5 crores.

Today, Shakti Kapoor’s net worth is estimated to be approximately ₹225 crores. Over the years, he became synonymous with villainous roles, but he also earned recognition for his comedic performances, creating a distinctive identity in Bollywood.

Shakti Kapoor’s legacy spans decades, and he continues to remain active in the film industry. His daughter, Shraddha Kapoor, is also a successful actress in Bollywood, further cementing the Kapoor family’s mark in the entertainment world.
