Flood Emergency in Three Major Rivers, Pakistan Army Leading Rescue Operations: DG ISPR

Islamabad: Director General ISPR **Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry** has confirmed that Pakistan is currently facing **serious flood conditions** in three major rivers — **Sutlej, Chenab, and Ravi** — with the **Pakistan Army actively involved in rescue and relief efforts** across the affected regions.

Speaking at a **press conference** alongside Federal Information Minister **Attaullah Tarar** and **NDMA Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik**, the DG ISPR said that under the directives of the Field Marshal, **army officers and soldiers are on the ground assisting civilians** in this time of crisis.

He revealed that **two soldiers have been martyred** during ongoing rescue operations, emphasizing that **the army stands shoulder to shoulder with the nation**.

Rescue missions, including boat operations in **Kartarpur**, are underway, and the **Karakoram Highway has been reopened**, easing access to some of the affected regions.

* Minister **Attaullah Tarar** confirmed flood situations in **three Punjab rivers**, stating that **NDMA is in full coordination with the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA)**.
* In **River Sutlej**, high flood levels are reported near **Ganda Singh Wala**.
* In **River Chenab**, water flow has intensified from **Marala** toward **Head Khanki**, exceeding **1 million cusecs** at Khanki.
* Water levels are rising toward **Qadirabad**, and local administrations have been alerted for **evacuations**.
* The situation near **Jassar and Shahdara** in River Ravi has slightly improved.

The **NDMA is distributing tents and essential supplies**, while **pre-evacuation alerts and early warning systems** have been credited for successfully minimizing human risk.

Prime Minister **Shehbaz Sharif**, who chaired an emergency meeting on the issue, has instructed to **intensify relief efforts** and **improve the efficiency of early warning systems**. He is being **kept fully updated** on the evolving weather conditions and flood impacts over the next **24–48 hours**.

Tarar emphasized that this is a **national response effort** involving **civilian agencies, the Pakistan Army, and NDMA**, working together to mitigate damages, monitor river activity, and ensure public safety. A detailed **damage assessment** will follow to initiate the **rehabilitation phase** in the coming days.
