Over Rs. 10 Million Loss Reported in Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme Due to Missing Devices

Islamabad: A major irregularity has surfaced in the Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme as several laptops distributed under the program have gone missing, causing a loss of over Rs. 11.9 million to the government.

The revelation was made during a meeting of the Public Accounts Sub-Committee, where the Higher Education Commission (HEC) disclosed that out of the laptops provided to different universities under Phase 2 of the scheme, 784 have been recovered, while 227 are still unaccounted for.

HEC officials further stated that universities failed to provide records for 757 laptops, raising further concerns over transparency and accountability in the distribution process.
