Quetta: University Lecturer Arrested as Terror Facilitator Following Suicide Bomber’s Confession

Quetta: In a major breakthrough, security forces in Quetta have arrested a university lecturer identified as a key facilitator of a banned terrorist organization, following the arrest of a suicide bomber earlier this month.
According to *Dunya News*, security sources revealed that a suicide bomber was apprehended in Quetta on August 11. During interrogation, the bomber led authorities to Dr. Usman Qazi, a lecturer at a university in Balochistan, who was subsequently arrested.
Investigations revealed that Dr. Qazi is affiliated with a proscribed outfit and has admitted to assisting in a terrorist attack at the Quetta Railway Station in 2024, as well as training dozens of militants.
Sources further disclosed that the lecturer was planning a major terrorist attack for August 14. However, due to the swift and timely action of the security forces, a potential large-scale tragedy was averted.
This arrest comes in the backdrop of a series of intelligence-based operations across Balochistan, as confirmed by Director General of ISPR, Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry. He recently stated that such operations are aimed specifically at eliminating terrorists and their facilitators, not harming innocent civilians.
Lt. Gen. Chaudhry emphasized that success in counter-terrorism efforts depends on local cooperation, noting that many residents of Balochistan are now actively identifying terrorists and their accomplices. He warned that anyone sheltering terrorists or storing explosives would face consequences.
The DG ISPR also reiterated that a collective, intelligence-led approach is vital to long-term success, cautioning against temporary evacuations that allow terrorists to return once operations end.
