Heavy Monsoon Rains Expected Across Pakistan from Today; NDMA Issues Travel Advisory

Islamabad:The **Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD)** has forecasted a significant **intensification in monsoon activity** across the country starting **today**, warning of **heavy rainfall** in multiple regions through **Tuesday**.
According to PMD, a **low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal** is likely to strengthen monsoon currents, bringing **widespread heavy rain** to **Islamabad**, **Punjab**, **Khyber Pakhtunkhwa**, and **Azad Jammu & Kashmir** from today onward.
Furthermore, **Sindh (including Karachi)** and **Balochistan** are also expected to receive **intense downpours** between **August 17 and August 22**, raising concerns over urban flooding and waterlogging in low-lying areas.
In response to the weather warning, the **National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA)** has issued a **strict advisory for tourists**, especially in areas prone to **flash floods**, **landslides**, and **cloudbursts**.
The NDMA has recommended that local administrations consider enforcing **Section 144** to restrict tourist movement in vulnerable areas if necessary, in order to **prevent accidents and facilitate emergency response efforts**.
Authorities have urged citizens and travelers to stay informed, avoid unnecessary travel to mountainous or flood-prone regions, and follow official instructions closely to ensure safety during the intense monsoon spell.
