Shah Mehmood Qureshi Acquitted in Shadman Police Station Burning Case; Yasmin Rashid and Others Sentenced

Lahore: Senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi has been acquitted in the cases related to the burning of Shadman Police Station and the destruction of police vehicles.
The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) announced its verdict on both cases from May 9, sentencing Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Mian Mahmood ur Rashid, Ejaz Chaudhry, and Umar Sarfraz Cheema to 10 years in prison each.
Judge Manzoor Ali Gill of the ATC Lahore delivered the verdict at the Kot Lakhpat Jail. A total of 19 accused individuals were tried in the Shadman Police Station arson case, including Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Yasmin Rashid, Umar Sarfraz Cheema, Ejaz Chaudhry, Mian Mahmood ur Rashid, Sanam Javed, and Aalia Hamza.
In the Shadman Police Station arson case, 41 individuals were nominated, with 15 declared as absconders. Six accused are currently under detention, while one has passed away. The accused face charges under terrorism and other relevant sections of the law.
In another case, related to the burning of vehicles outside a bakery, the trial was also completed at Kot Lakhpat Jail. The defendants in this case include Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Yasmin Rashid, Umar Sarfraz Cheema, Ejaz Chaudhry, Mian Mahmood ur Rashid, Aalia Hamza, and Sanam Javed.
A total of 25 individuals were named in the vehicle-burning case, with 7 of them declared absconders. The trial for 12 individuals was concluded, while five are in custody and one has passed away. The case is also filed under terrorism and other applicable sections of the law.
