Actress Sanam Jung Opens Up About Life in the US, Family, and Her Journey to Marriage

Lahore: In an emotional interview, renowned Pakistani actress and host, Sanam Jung, shared her personal journey of adjusting to life in the United States after moving there with her husband. She revealed how difficult it was for her to leave Pakistan, where she had enjoyed a close-knit family and support system, and how much she missed her life there.
Sanam, who recently took a break from acting following the birth of her second daughter, appeared on *Good Morning Pakistan* with Nadia Yasir. During the show, she talked about the challenges of living abroad, especially when one’s support system is far away. She reflected on the value of family and support, saying, “What I enjoyed in Pakistan, I miss it a lot. We often take our family and support system for granted, but their true importance becomes clear only when you move abroad.”
Sanam went on to explain that while she isn’t entirely alone in the US—her cousins and friends live nearby—it’s still challenging. “They live about a thirty-minute drive away, so it’s not the same as being able to leave my child with my mother like I could back in Pakistan. Here, everything has to be done on your own. I have to pick up the kids from school, take care of my toddler, and handle everything else myself.”
The actress also shared how isolation had been a major struggle in the initial days of her relocation. She revealed that to cope with loneliness, she began vlogging, talking to her fans, and sharing videos. “Whenever I felt lonely, I would talk to my fans, and after sharing a video, I would feel better,” she said.
However, adjusting wasn’t easy for Sanam, and she confessed to often standing on the balcony crying and falling into depression during the early days. “It was a tough time, especially when my husband Qasim had to go through it alone. While I was with my parents, he had to manage everything by himself,” she said.
Sanam explained that their move to the US was prompted by her husband’s job there. Initially, she went for a vacation, but when it was time to return to Pakistan, her husband convinced her to stay as he was feeling very lonely.
Reflecting on her relationship with Qasim, Sanam revealed that their friendship began back in school days. Although they lost contact for some time, they reconnected through various events and, eventually, a chance meeting at a jogging track reignited their bond. The couple began thinking about marriage in 2008, and by 2016, they were officially married. Today, they are happily living in the US with their two daughters, Alaya and Aliza.
Sanam’s heartfelt revelations provide insight into the emotional complexities of life abroad, the value of family, and the support needed to navigate the challenges of a new life away from home.
