Senate Secretariat Declares Leader of the Opposition Position Vacant Following Election Commission’s Decision

Islamabad, Pakistan:The Senate Secretariat has issued a notification declaring the position of the Leader of the Opposition vacant, following the Election Commission’s decision to disqualify Senator Shibli Faraz. According to the notification, the opposition leader’s seat has been vacant since August 5th, in accordance with the Election Commission’s ruling.

The Election Commission had earlier disqualified Shibli Faraz, along with eight other members of Parliament, due to their convictions in connection with the May 9 incidents. As a result, the seats of these disqualified members, including Faraz’s, were declared vacant.

Shibli Faraz, along with fellow PTI leader Umar Ayub, challenged their disqualification in the Peshawar High Court. The court issued an order restraining the Election Commission from taking further action while the case was under review.

This decision marks a significant political development, with Faraz losing his role as the Leader of the Opposition following his disqualification. It also raises further questions about the impact of the recent legal proceedings on PTI’s leadership and its standing in Parliament.
