Pakistan Supports Iran’s Peaceful Nuclear Program

Islamabad: Pakistan has expressed its support for Iran’s peaceful nuclear program. This announcement came during a joint press conference held in Islamabad, where several agreements and memorandums of understanding (MOUs) were exchanged between the two nations.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, speaking alongside Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, reiterated Pakistan’s principled stance on supporting Iran, especially in light of Israel’s unwarranted aggression against Iran. He condemned Israeli actions, noting that both Pakistan and its people stand in solidarity with Iran.
Shehbaz Sharif emphasized, “A true friend is one who stands by you in difficult times. Our thoughts on combating terrorism align with those of Iran.” He also stated that Pakistan and Iran aim to reach a target of \$10 billion in bilateral trade soon.
In his remarks, the Prime Minister mentioned that Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian’s visit to Pakistan as the Iranian president marked the first of its kind. He stated that the two sides had in-depth discussions on various issues including bilateral relations, religious ties, and geographical matters.
Prime Minister Sharif also referred to the Israeli aggression against Iran in June, which he condemned as unjustified. He paid tribute to the Iranian martyrs and soldiers who lost their lives during the Israeli attacks, praying for their souls to rest in peace.
He expressed hope that the agreements signed with Iran would soon be implemented. He further stressed that Iran has every right to pursue nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
On the issue of Gaza, the Prime Minister urged for an immediate ceasefire and reiterated that both Pakistan and Iran have consistently raised their voices in support of Palestinians. He pointed out that Israeli atrocities in Gaza are ongoing and that the international community must unite for peace.
During the press conference, Iranian President Dr. Pezeshkian began his address by quoting a verse from the Quran and emphasized the importance of unity among the Muslim Ummah. He thanked the Prime Minister and the people of Pakistan for their warm hospitality and expressed his appreciation for Pakistan’s support against Israeli aggression.
Dr. Pezeshkian highlighted that Pakistan and Iran share common cultural and religious ties, with the poetry of Allama Iqbal serving as a guiding light for both nations. He underscored that Iran values its strong relationship with Pakistan as a key element of its foreign policy and is committed to deepening ties across multiple sectors.
