Power Distribution Companies Seek NEPRA Approval for Rs 53 Billion Relief to Consumers

Islamabad:Electric power distribution companies have submitted a formal request to the **National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA)**, seeking approval to provide relief to consumers under the **quarterly adjustment** for the **last quarter of the previous fiscal year**.
According to the application filed with NEPRA, the relief is largely due to **capacity payment savings amounting to Rs 53.71 billion**. However, there will be an added burden of **Rs 662 million in use-of-system charges** and **Rs 182 million in operations and maintenance costs**.
The net impact, as mentioned in the application, would result in a **total relief of Rs 53.39 billion** for electricity consumers across the country.
NEPRA has scheduled a **public hearing on the matter for August 4**, after which a final decision will be made. The outcome of the decision will be applicable to electricity users **nationwide, including in Karachi**.
This potential relief comes as welcome news for consumers already burdened by high electricity tariffs and inflation.
