PM Shehbaz Sharif Claims Removal of Most Corrupt Elements from FBR Despite Pressure

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has stated that his government has removed some of the most corrupt individuals from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), despite facing intense pressure and political recommendations to retain them.
Speaking at an event, the Prime Minister revealed that he had anticipated resistance and lobbying from various quarters when action was taken against corrupt officials. “As soon as such steps are taken in our country, recommendations start pouring in from all sides,” he remarked.
According to a report by Azad Urdu, Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that he was not mentally prepared for the magnitude of pressure but chose to ignore all such lobbying. “There were numerous recommendations not to remove certain individuals, but we went ahead with what had to be done.”
The Prime Minister added that the government relied on credible intelligence provided by agencies to identify and remove these corrupt elements. “We had verified information, and we acted on it without compromise. What we did was unprecedented,” he said.
He underscored the importance of institutional accountability and said such bold measures were necessary for reforming the system and restoring public trust.
