Prime Minister Orders Comprehensive Plan to Transform PNSC into an International-Standard Shipping Company

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) to develop a comprehensive plan to transform it into an international-standard shipping company.
A statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office revealed that the meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, focused on the restructuring, reforms, and performance review of PNSC with the goal of making it a globally competitive shipping entity.
Prime Minister Sharif emphasized the significant investment potential in Pakistan’s shipping sector and instructed officials to formulate a detailed plan to encourage private investment in the industry. He also highlighted the need to increase the number of ships and promote the use of PNSC vessels for cargo movement on a competitive basis within Pakistan.
In addition, the Prime Minister suggested engaging sector experts and consultants to guide the transformation of PNSC into a world-class shipping company.
He further explained that the reforms in PNSC would not only save valuable foreign exchange paid to international shipping companies but also generate more employment opportunities for local seafarers.
The meeting was attended by Federal Ministers Ahad Khan Cheema, Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, and relevant senior officials. Participants were briefed on the current number of vessels in PNSC’s fleet, annual cargo movements in Pakistan, and plans for expanding PNSC’s operations in the future. Detailed insights into the corporation’s operations were also presented.
