Government Launches Major Electric Bike Subsidy Initiative, Reserves 25% Quota for Women

Islamabad:In a significant move to promote eco-friendly transportation and reduce fuel dependency, the government has launched a comprehensive review of its electric bike subsidy campaign. The meeting was chaired by **Haroon Akhtar Khan**, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production.

The initiative is aligned with **Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision**, aiming to provide subsidies for **116,000 electric bikes** to facilitate affordable and sustainable transport for the public.

> *“The government is committed to offering low-cost, environment-friendly transportation options. Electric vehicles not only save fuel but also help combat environmental pollution,”* said Haroon Akhtar Khan during the meeting.

### **Key Highlights:**

* **25% of the electric bike quota** will be reserved for **women**, to promote inclusivity and ease of access for female commuters.
* Under the upcoming **New Electric Vehicle (NEV) Policy**, a subsidy of **Rs. 50,000 per electric motorcycle** and **Rs. 200,000 per electric rickshaw** will be provided.
* A total of **Rs. 4 billion** has been allocated for this purpose.
* The campaign is seen as a key step toward encouraging **sustainable transport** and reducing Pakistan’s **carbon footprint**.

The meeting was attended by senior officials, including:

* **Saif Anjum**, Secretary, Ministry of Industries and Production
* **Ambareen Jan**, Secretary, Ministry of Information
* **Mubashir Hassan**, Principal Information Officer
