Chairman FBR Reveals 95% of People Lack Air Conditioners Amidst Severe Heat

Islamabad: Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Rashid Langrial, revealed that despite the extreme heat, 95% of people in the country do not own air conditioners.
During a Senate Committee meeting attended by members including Saleem Mandviwala, Farooq H. Naik, and Shibli Faraz, Rashid Langrial briefed the attendees on various issues.
Langrial shared that the total number of tax filers in the country stands at 6 million. He further added that despite the scorching temperatures, most people in the country do not have air conditioning.
He also highlighted that there are 132 million individuals under the age of 18 or elderly, making up a significant portion of the population that is outside the labor force. Moreover, many educated women remain unemployed.
During the meeting, Saleem Mandviwala pointed out that 250 companies have received Anti-Money Laundering (AML) notices, suggesting that such notices should not be issued without the approval of ministers or the chairman.
Farooq H. Naik emphasized the severe consequences of receiving an AML notice, stating that when a company gets one, financial institutions immediately begin investigations, and the company’s banking channels are frozen.
Shibli Faraz requested further details on how many AML cases have been filed and how many individuals have been penalized.
