Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar Makes Shocking Revelation About Controversial “Taghut Scandal”

Lahore: Renowned Pakistani writer and poet Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar has made a startling revelation regarding last year’s highly controversial and viral “Taghut Scandal,” giving the incident a completely new dimension.
Speaking on a podcast, Qamar claimed that the heated exchange between prominent Islamic scholar Sahel Adeem and a young female participant on a television show was actually pre-planned. He asserted that the entire incident was scripted in advance and not spontaneous as it appeared to the viewers.
Qamar revealed that when Sahel Adeem referred to women as “ignorant,” he was about to intervene to clarify that ignorance is not gender-specific and that he considers anyone who hasn’t read the Quran with translation as ignorant—whether male or female. However, before he could speak, a young woman interrupted, which escalated the discussion in an unexpected direction.
He expressed surprise that a participant demanded an apology from a scholar like Sahel Adeem, stating that everyone makes mistakes, but the real issue was the perceived disrespect. According to Qamar, the producers intended to provoke controversy and emotional reactions, and they succeeded in doing so.
The incident in question aired in June last year and featured Sahel Adeem criticizing modern women, claiming that 95 out of 100 women are ignorant and only interested in makeup and TikTok, while being unaware of basic Islamic concepts like “Taghut.”
His remarks sparked a sharp response from participant Azbah Abdullah, who demanded an apology and accused society of systematically keeping women away from knowledge. The discussion intensified as Sahel Adeem insisted that calling out ignorance is an Islamic duty, citing a Hadith to support his stance.
During the heated exchange, Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar also lost his composure and asked the host to mute the participant’s microphone, especially after she reacted negatively to hearing Arabic verses. This moment further fueled the controversy, which quickly went viral on social media.
While some praised the woman’s courage, others heavily criticized Qamar, Adeem, and the host for their behavior. Now, nearly a year later, Qamar’s revelation that the entire encounter may have been orchestrated adds a new and explosive layer to the ongoing debate.
