Saudi Arabia Deploys Drones to Curb Illegal Hajj Activities

MAKKAH:In a significant move to enhance security and enforce regulations during the Hajj season, Saudi authorities have begun using drones to monitor and prevent illegal pilgrimage activities in Makkah.

The drones are being deployed across the holy city’s boundaries to detect unauthorized individuals attempting to perform Hajj without official permits. According to officials, hundreds of arrests are being made daily through drone surveillance, demonstrating the effectiveness of this high-tech approach.

In a related development, four Indonesian nationals were detained in Makkah for running a fake advertising campaign offering unauthorized Hajj permits. Subsequent raids on their residence led to the arrest of 14 more individuals, none of whom possessed valid Hajj permits.

Saudi authorities have reiterated their commitment to ensuring that only authorized pilgrims participate in the annual religious pilgrimage, citing safety, organization, and the sanctity of the holy sites as top priorities. The use of drones marks a modern step in the Kingdom’s ongoing efforts to maintain order during one of the world’s largest religious gatherings.
