Pakistanis Top List of Asylum Seekers in the UK, Says Home Office Report

In a significant development, **Pakistanis have become the largest group of asylum seekers in the United Kingdom**, according to the latest data released by the **UK Home Office**.
For the year ending **March 2025**, a total of **109,343 people** applied for asylum in the UK. Among them, **11,048 were Pakistani nationals**, placing Pakistan at the top of the list. In contrast, during the previous reporting year (2023–24), **Pakistan ranked third** among countries with the highest number of asylum applicants.
**Afghan nationals** were the **second-largest group** during the same period, with **8,069 applications** submitted.
The report also highlighted that **33% of asylum seekers arrived via small boats crossing the English Channel**, a method that has been at the center of public and political debate in the UK.
The sharp rise in asylum claims from Pakistan has raised concerns and discussions around the **reasons behind the increase**, including political instability, economic hardship, and human rights issues within the country.
The UK government continues to review and reform its asylum policies, especially regarding **irregular migration routes**, as the country faces ongoing challenges in managing its immigration and refugee systems.
