India Suspends Trade and Educational Relations with Turkey Amidst Tensions with Pakistan

New Delhi (Daily Qudrat) – India has officially suspended its trade and educational relations with Turkey, a decision stemming from the recent tensions between India and Pakistan. According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, this move was made in response to Turkey’s unwavering support for Pakistan during the ongoing conflict.

### India’s Response to Turkey’s Support for Pakistan

The Indian government stated that countries questioning India’s sovereignty or offering support to Pakistan in the wake of rising tensions will face a reevaluation of bilateral relations.

> “Reviewing ties with countries that challenge India’s sovereignty is part of our policy,” said the Ministry of External Affairs in a statement.

This suspension of relations follows earlier actions against Turkey, including the cancellation of security clearances for a Turkish company operating at Indian airports. Moreover, a boycott campaign against Turkish apples has been gaining momentum, particularly among traders in Pune, who have been urging for the discontinuation of Turkish fruit imports.

### Turkey’s Support for Pakistan and Growing Hostilities

Turkey’s staunch backing of Pakistan during the recent conflict has fueled tensions with India, with many in India expressing their dissatisfaction over Turkey’s position. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Turkey had earlier reaffirmed his country’s solidarity with Pakistan, stating,

> “We stand with you, Pakistan. The brotherhood between Turkey and Pakistan is rare among nations.”

This public statement of support for Pakistan by Turkish leadership is believed to have been a key factor in triggering India’s decision to sever ties, as it was seen as an endorsement of Pakistan’s stance during a period of escalating hostilities.

### Broader Impact of Diplomatic Rift

The suspension of diplomatic and trade links is seen as another sign of the growing geopolitical divide in the region, with both countries increasingly asserting their respective positions. As Turkey continues to side with Pakistan, India’s diplomatic response has involved not only the cessation of trade and educational relations but also a broader boycott movement led by businesses against Turkish goods.

This development adds further complexity to India-Turkey relations and highlights the continuing ripple effects of the ongoing tension between India and Pakistan.
