Heavy Rain Causes Devastation in Dir: Roads Blocked, Tourists Stranded

Lower Dir: Torrential rainfall has wreaked havoc across various parts of Dir, leading to flash floods in streams and landslides that have blocked several key roads. As a result, many residents and tourists have become stranded in the affected areas.
According to Express News, the heavy downpour in Lower Dir brought relief from the summer heat and turned the weather pleasant, with overcast skies and cool breezes prevailing throughout the region.
Meanwhile, in Upper Dir’s Kohistan region, continuous rain and overflowing streams caused severe destruction. A landslide at Bada blocked the road leading to the scenic Kumrat Valley, leaving a large number of tourists stranded. Local sources confirm that among those stuck are men, women, the elderly, and children.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a warning indicating that intermittent rainfall is expected to continue across most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from today until May 12.
Areas likely to be affected include Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Malakand, Buner, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Waziristan, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Bannu, Karak, and Kohat, with the possibility of thunderstorms accompanying the rain.
