Sania Mirza Opens Up About Struggles of Motherhood Without Shoaib Malik: “Mothers Always Do More”

Mumbai: Indian tennis star and former wife of Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik, Sania Mirza, has opened up about the emotional and physical challenges of motherhood, emphasizing that the burden of parenting is never equally shared between mothers and fathers.
Speaking on a podcast, Sania said, “Parental responsibilities are never 50-50. Mothers always do more. This world is not equal for mothers.” The sports icon, who has earned acclaim both on and off the tennis court, spoke candidly about her journey as a working mother and the sacrifices it entails.
Reflecting on the period after her son’s birth, Sania described breastfeeding as one of the toughest phases of her life. “Before my son was born, everything seemed manageable, but after his birth, things changed drastically. Going back to work just six weeks after delivery was emotionally overwhelming. I would cry while flying away from my child,” she recalled.
She highlighted the unequal expectations placed on mothers regardless of geography, profession, or social status. “Whether you are a celebrity or from any background, a mother always sacrifices more emotionally, physically, and with her time.”
Sania’s heartfelt remarks have resonated widely, with many women on social media expressing support and appreciation. Fans praised her for balancing a demanding sports career with the responsibilities of motherhood, calling her an inspiration.
