Sanjay Dutt, Mouni Roy and Palak Tiwari’s Horror-Comedy ‘The Bhootni’ Fails to Impress Audiences

Mumbai: The much-anticipated horror-comedy film The Bhootni, starring Sanjay Dutt, Mouni Roy, Palak Tiwari, and Sunny Singh, hit theatres on May 1, 2025. Despite its star-studded cast and an attempt to blend humor with horror, the film has failed to leave an impact on audiences.
The story revolves around Shantanu (played by Sunny Singh), who, after a heartbreak, attempts suicide under a mysterious tree, leading his life into a strange and supernatural direction. Following another student’s suicide at the same college, the administration calls in Baba (Sanjay Dutt), a paranormal expert and former student of the institution, to investigate.
While the film tries to balance comedy with spooky elements, critics have pointed out that the narrative is weak and the screenplay lacks coherence. Additionally, the film’s music, background score, and visual effects did not meet expectations. Performances by Sanjay Dutt, Mouni Roy, and Palak Tiwari were also seen as underwhelming by both critics and viewers.
Given its disappointing performance on its opening day, industry insiders suggest that The Bhootni may struggle at the box office and could potentially be declared a flop.
