Sindh Government Launches Free Electric Scooty Scheme for Women Empowerment

The Sindh government has announced a significant initiative aimed at empowering women and making their daily commutes safer and more accessible. Under this new scheme, the Department of Transport and Mass Transit will provide free pink electric scooters to eligible women across the province. The goal is to make daily travel affordable, safe, and convenient for women, particularly those who face difficulties with transportation.
### **Target Audience:**
The scheme primarily targets female students and working women who struggle with transportation issues. The government believes that providing women with better mobility will enable them to fully benefit from educational and employment opportunities, thus actively contributing to economic development.
### **Eligibility Criteria:**
To qualify for the scheme, applicants must meet several criteria:
– **Permanent Residency:** The applicant must be a permanent resident of Sindh.
– **Student or Working Woman:** Applicants must either be students or employed women.
– **Valid Driving License:** A valid motorcycle or car driving license is required.
– **Non-transferability:** The recipient of the scooter will not be allowed to sell or lease it for at least seven years.
– **Road Safety Test:** If selected in the lottery, the applicant must pass a road safety skills test.
### **Training Program:**
To ensure the success of the initiative, the Sindh Mass Transit Authority will also introduce free training programs across the province. These sessions will educate women on bike operation, road safety rules, and other essential road safety measures, helping them navigate the streets with confidence.
### **Transparent Distribution Process:**
The distribution of scooters will be conducted with full transparency, and it will be monitored by both print and electronic media. A special committee, consisting of representatives from the Excise, Transport, Finance, and Media departments, has been formed to ensure that the process remains fair and impartial at every stage.
### **Registration Process:**
Interested women can apply by visiting the Sindh Mass Transit Authority’s official website at [smta.sindh.gov.pk](http://smta.sindh.gov.pk). The registration process is straightforward, and eligible candidates will be selected through a fair lottery system.
### **Impact of the Scheme:**
This initiative marks a major step in the Sindh government’s ongoing efforts to empower women in the province. By providing them with reliable transportation, the scheme will not only offer women greater social security but will also make their daily commutes easier and safer.
This move is expected to significantly improve the quality of life for many women in Sindh, giving them more independence and control over their mobility while contributing to the broader goals of women’s empowerment and economic participation.
