Protests Erupt Nationwide Against Controversial Waqf Bill

New Delhi:India is witnessing widespread unrest following the passage of a **controversial Waqf Bill** by the Modi government, which has sparked protests across the country. The bill is being seen by many as another attempt by the ruling **BJP** government to strip Muslims of their rights.
The new law has led to violent demonstrations in several states, with the worst clashes occurring in **Murshidabad**, West Bengal, where the protests turned into a bloodbath. Police responded with heavy baton charges and tear gas, intensifying the confrontation.
In West Bengal, protesters blocked roads and national highways, while also issuing a threat to **BJP** to call for a nationwide shutdown. The situation escalated further when the authorities imposed **prohibitory orders** and shut down the **internet** in several regions.
Opposition parties, Muslim organizations, and human rights groups have called for a countrywide protest against the bill. According to **Indian media**, protests have erupted in **Kolkata**, **Ranchi**, **Ahmedabad**, **Bihar**, and **Manipur**, with people taking to the streets in large numbers, shouting slogans like “**Waqf Bill, withdraw now**.”
The Waqf Bill, if passed, will allow the government to seize **mosques**, **dargahs (shrines)**, and other properties belonging to the **Muslim Waqf boards**, leading to concerns that the **Indian government** is trying to gain control over Muslim religious assets. This move has been widely condemned both **domestically** and **internationally**, with critics claiming it violates the rights of Muslims in the country.
The ongoing protests have escalated into a national issue, with widespread calls for government accountability and justice. The future of the bill remains uncertain as tensions continue to rise in India.
