Alleged Reaction to Injection Leads to Death of Patient, 15 Others Affected at Lahore’s Mayo Hospital

A tragic incident has occurred at Lahore’s Mayo Hospital, where a 36-year-old patient, Noreen, died following an alleged reaction to an injection. Additionally, 15 other patients were affected, with 3 of them being placed on ventilators.
According to the hospital administration, the reaction was linked to the administration of Ceftrixone injections. The hospital authorities confirmed that the patient, Noreen, passed away as a result of this reaction, and the affected patients are currently being treated.
The Mayo Hospital administration has halted the use of the Ceftrixone injection and formed an inquiry committee under the leadership of Professor Dr. Asrar-ul-Haq, which includes the Chief Pharmacist, Deputy Nursing, and the Assistant Medical Superintendent (AMS) of the hospital, along with other members to investigate the matter.
Professor Mohammad Haroon Hamid, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Mayo Hospital, assured that legal action would be taken against those responsible for the incident.
Meanwhile, sources revealed that the hospital had recently procured new medications, which were allegedly brought in without proper laboratory testing. The injections were administered to the patients without conducting the necessary tests beforehand, raising concerns about the hospital’s medication safety protocols.
