Tension Escalates Between MQM’s Farooq Sattar and PPP’s Sharjeel Inaam Memon Over Karachi Traffic Accidents

In a heated exchange during a press conference, Farooq Sattar, a senior leader of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Pakistan, and Shujaat Ali Mehmood, the provincial minister of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), clashed over issues related to heavy traffic accidents in Karachi.

The meeting, chaired by Sindh’s Senior Minister Shujaat Ali Mehmood, was convened to discuss recent traffic-related incidents in the city, as instructed by the Sindh Chief Minister. The press conference also saw the participation of transporters’ association leaders, AIG Javed Alam Odhro, and other officials.

The tension arose when Farooq Sattar commented on the importance of issuing warnings and emphasized the distinction between warnings and supporting violence. He further stated that issuing warnings is part of their responsibility. However, his continuous remarks prompted Shujaat Ali Mehmood to interrupt, which caused Sattar to become visibly upset.

Shujaat Ali Mehmood took the opportunity to remark that others also had their say and urged Sattar to move on, suggesting that if anyone engages in mischief, they will be arrested. In response, Farooq Sattar expressed his displeasure, stating that if he had known that Shujaat Ali Mehmood would be chairing the meeting instead of the Chief Minister, he would have sent other MQM leaders in his place. To which Shujaat Ali Mehmood replied, stating he had already informed Ali Khursheed of his role in the meeting and was unaware who informed Farooq Sattar otherwise.

During the press conference, Farooq Sattar called for the formation of a commission to investigate the increasing traffic accidents in Karachi, urging citizens to seek justice through the appropriate forums. He demanded accountability and stated that individuals responsible for these fatal accidents should be arrested and brought to justice, emphasizing the need for the authorities to fulfill their responsibilities effectively.

The exchange ended with Shujaat Ali Mehmood reiterating the message that no one will be allowed to disrupt the peace and security of Karachi.
