Ali Amin Gandapur Reopens Contacts with Federal Government Amid KP Political Crisis

PESHAWAR:Former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has reportedly resumed contacts with the federal government following the political deadlock, the dissolution of the provincial government and the imposition of governor’s rule in the province.

According to media reports citing Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) sources, communication between Gandapur and the federal government had completely broken down after governor’s rule was imposed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on October 11. However, the former chief minister has now restarted dialogue on the instructions of the party’s provincial parliamentary party.

Sources said an important meeting of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa parliamentary party, held on October 20, formally authorised Gandapur to conduct negotiations and maintain contacts with the federal government.

A majority of the provincial parliamentary party reportedly favours reducing political tensions and resolving outstanding issues through negotiations.

Following the decision, preliminary discussions were held with two senior federal ministers who had been part of the federal government’s negotiating team before the imposition of governor’s rule, according to party sources.

The renewed contacts are primarily aimed at exploring ways to restore the provincial government and secure the immediate release of PTI workers arrested during the political unrest in the province.

Sources said discussions were being advanced around these two key priorities, with PTI now awaiting a formal response from the federal government and clarity on its next steps.

The reported resumption of communication could open a channel for political dialogue amid continuing tensions between PTI and the federal government. However, no formal agreement or decision on restoring the provincial government has been confirmed in the information provided.
