LPG Prices Surge to Rs750 per Kilogram in Pakistan as Government Considers Daily Pricing

ISLAMABAD:Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices have surged sharply in Pakistan, reaching as high as Rs750 per kilogram in northern areas, while the government is considering introducing a daily pricing mechanism to regulate the market.
The proposed change would replace the existing monthly pricing system and aims to prevent hoarding and address potential price increases during the winter season, when demand for gas typically rises.
Under the proposed mechanism, LPG prices could be revised daily instead of being fixed once a month. The move is intended to enable the government to respond more quickly to market fluctuations and curb speculative price increases.
The rising cost of LPG has also raised concerns about domestic gas cylinders potentially exceeding Rs10,000, placing additional financial pressure on households that rely on the fuel for cooking and heating.
Meanwhile, LPG importers have called for a review of the existing pricing formula, recommending that prices be determined weekly or daily rather than monthly to better reflect changing market conditions.
The sharp increase in LPG prices has intensified concerns among consumers, particularly in northern regions where households depend heavily on the fuel due to limited access to pipeline natural gas.
The government’s proposed pricing reform is expected to focus on improving price regulation, discouraging hoarding and ensuring a more responsive pricing system ahead of the winter months.
