Pakistani Dramas Don’t Need Netflix, Says Urwa Hocane

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani actress Urwa Hocane has praised the quality of local television dramas and storytelling, saying that Pakistani content does not need to be compared with platforms like Netflix to establish its worth.

During an interview, the actress criticised the growing trend of describing high-quality Pakistani dramas as being “Netflix standard.”

Hocane said she found such comparisons inappropriate, arguing that Pakistani artists and creative professionals were already producing work that could be even better.

She emphasised that a project does not automatically become superior simply because it is released on an application or an online streaming platform. Instead, the quality of creative work produced in Pakistan should be judged on its own merits rather than through comparisons with international platforms.

The actress highlighted that the real strength of Pakistani dramas lies in their storytelling, the emphasis placed on the craft, and the genuine emotions reflected in their narratives.

According to Hocane, emotional authenticity is fundamental to creative work, and Pakistani dramas should be appreciated for their distinctive stories and ability to connect with audiences.

Her remarks underline the importance of recognising the value of Pakistan’s entertainment industry without relying on international streaming platforms as a benchmark for quality.
