Pakistan Sets Target to Purchase 18 LNG Cargoes for Winter

ISLAMABAD:Pakistan has set a target of purchasing 18 liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes for the upcoming winter season to meet anticipated gas demand across the country.
According to sources in the Petroleum Division, the combined availability of locally produced gas for Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) and Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) stands at 1.4 billion cubic feet per day.
However, gas demand in Punjab alone is expected to reach 1 billion cubic feet per day during winter, raising concerns about meeting the province’s requirements through domestic supplies.
Sources said the government plans to procure 18 LNG cargoes for the winter season, with preference being given to cheaper LNG imports from Qatar.
They added that the maximum acceptable price for spot LNG purchases could be set at $30 per million British thermal units (MMBtu).
The procurement strategy is aimed at meeting winter gas requirements while keeping import costs under control.
