Electricity Tariff May Rise to Rs27.31 per Unit from January 2027

ISLAMABAD:The electricity tariff in Pakistan may reach Rs27.31 per unit from January 1, 2027, as the cost of electricity purchases is projected to increase during the coming year.
According to estimates, Pakistan’s electricity purchase price could rise to Rs27.309 per kilowatt-hour (unit) in 2027.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has projected the total cost of electricity purchases at Rs3.55 trillion under its base-case estimates for the upcoming tariff review.
The projections form part of the process to revise electricity tariffs for consumers served by former WAPDA power distribution companies, with the revised rates expected to take effect from January 1, 2027.
As part of the review, a revised reference cost will be determined for the next tariff period. This reference cost will serve as the basis for setting electricity tariffs for consumers.
The projected figure represents an estimate for the upcoming tariff period, while the final rates will depend on the regulatory review and approval process.
