Court Grants Two-Day Extension in Physical Remand of Anchorperson Iqrar-ul-Hassan

KARACHI: A judicial magistrate in Karachi has extended the physical remand of anchorperson and Awam Raj Party chief Iqrar-ul-Hassan by another two days in a case registered against him. The court also formally rejected a defence application seeking his discharge from the case.

Iqrar-ul-Hassan was produced before the Judicial Magistrate East after the expiry of his previous physical remand. Officials of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) brought him to court under tight security and in handcuffs.

During the hearing, investigation officials argued that further physical remand was necessary to question the accused and collect important evidence related to the case. They requested the court to extend his remand to allow the investigation to proceed.

However, Iqrar-ul-Hassan’s lawyers argued that the case against their client was baseless and lacked legal merit. They urged the court to discharge him from the case and release him from the proceedings.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the court reserved its verdict on the request for an extension of physical remand.

Later, the court announced its decision, approving a further two-day extension in Iqrar-ul-Hassan’s physical remand while rejecting the defence application seeking his discharge.

Following the announcement of the verdict, NCCIA officials took Iqrar-ul-Hassan back into their custody and left the court premises.

A large number of his family members and relatives were also present at the court during the proceedings.

The investigation is continuing, with the agency seeking additional time to question the accused and gather evidence in the case.
