Foreign Ministry Launches Digital Attestation System, Offers E-Certificates from Home

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has activated a digital document attestation system to facilitate citizens, enabling them to submit applications online from home and receive electronic attestation certificates via email after verification.

According to the ministry, the new system became operational on October 12, 2026. Under the initiative, citizens can obtain document attestation services through the ministry’s central office in Islamabad and liaison offices in Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta and Gujrat.

Applicants can complete the process for general and apostille attestation through the official online portal and pay the prescribed fee. Once the verification process is completed, the attestation certificate will be sent to the applicant via email.

The ministry said the digital system has been developed on the model of the Higher Education Commission’s (HEC) online attestation mechanism.

The initiative aims to make document attestation faster, easier and more transparent, while reducing the need for citizens to visit government offices repeatedly. It is also expected to save applicants time and travel expenses.

However, the ministry clarified that applicants may still be required to appear in person in certain exceptional or specific cases.

The ministry has advised individuals seeking document attestation to submit their applications through the official online portal to benefit from the new digital facility.
