‘I Want You to Get Even the Moon If You Ask for It,’ Maryam Nawaz Tells Students

SAHIWAL: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has expressed her desire to see students achieve their dreams and reach the highest positions in public service, saying she wants Punjab and the entire country to prosper.

Addressing a laptop distribution ceremony at the University of Sahiwal, the chief minister offered her best wishes to students and encouraged them to pursue ambitious goals.

“May Allah bless the whole of Punjab and Pakistan with progress. My children, may you all prosper and succeed,” she said.

Maryam Nawaz said she hoped that some students would become chief ministers, ministers, members of provincial and national assemblies, while others would rise to important positions in public administration.

She said she wanted to see students become police commissioners, regional police officers (RPOs), district police officers (DPOs), commissioners, deputy commissioners and assistant commissioners.

“My heart wants that if you ask for the moon, you should get the moon,” she said, emphasising her wish for young people to have the opportunities and support needed to fulfil their ambitions.

Punjab to Provide 100,000 Electric Bikes to Young People

The chief minister also announced that the Punjab government was moving ahead with plans to provide 100,000 electric bikes to young people despite budgetary constraints and limited financial resources.

She said one reason for initially seeking applications was the financial pressure facing the provincial government. However, she maintained that the government remained committed to fulfilling its promise to young people.

Maryam Nawaz said the province had faced financial difficulties this year, including the transfer of funds to the federal government, but added that she could not withdraw a commitment made to the public.

Referring to the large number of applications and registrations received for the electric bikes, she said the provincial treasury belonged to the people.

“The Punjab treasury belongs to the people, and I have opened its doors for my sons and daughters,” she said.

The chief minister described the initiative as an effort to improve transport facilities for young people and expand their access to education, employment and other opportunities.

She reiterated that the government would continue introducing youth-focused initiatives despite financial challenges, adding that provincial resources should be spent on public welfare.

Maryam Nawaz Travels by Road to Keep Her Promise to Students

Maryam Nawaz also explained why she travelled to Sahiwal by road instead of helicopter to attend the ceremony.

She said she had originally planned to travel by helicopter, but heavy rain in Lahore in the morning led to the cancellation of the flight.

The chief minister said she decided to continue the journey by road because she did not want students to wait for her in vain.

“I thought it was not possible for the children to keep waiting for me and for me not to arrive,” she said.

Her remarks underscored her message that young people should remain at the centre of government policies and that commitments made to them should be honoured.

The ceremony focused on educational support, youth empowerment and the provision of better opportunities for students across Punjab.
