Flour prices reduced by Rs6 per kilogram

KARACHI: Flour prices in Karachi have been reduced by Rs6 per kilogram at fair-price shops after the Sindh government and the Flour Mills Association reached an agreement, offering temporary relief to consumers amid rising food costs.
As per a report, flour prices had been rising over the past several days, adding to the financial difficulties faced by low- and middle-income households.
The decision followed talks between Sindh’s food minister and representatives of the Flour Mills Association. Under the arrangement, flour will be sold at reduced rates at designated fair-price shops.
However, Sindh Flour Mills Association Vice Chairman Abid Mehsud said that despite the price reduction, wheat availability remained a major challenge for the flour industry.
He said that if the government allowed flour millers to import wheat directly, they could import it at around Rs100 per kilogram, potentially helping provide flour to consumers at lower prices.
The association also warned that flour prices could rise further if the wheat shortage were not addressed.
