PM Shehbaz Calls High-Level Meeting on KP Security Amid Speculation Over Governor’s Rule

ISLAMABAD:Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has convened a high-level meeting to review the prevailing law and order and security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with reports suggesting that possible measures, including governor’s rule or the imposition of an emergency, may be discussed.
According to media reports citing sources, the meeting will be held at the Prime Minister’s House under the chairmanship of Shehbaz Sharif. Senior federal ministers, heads of national security institutions and senior officials of the Ministry of Interior are expected to attend.
Officials from the Interior Ministry and security institutions are expected to brief participants on the province’s security situation, public safety concerns and the challenges facing law enforcement agencies. Reports from security institutions will also be reviewed.
### Constitutional Options Under Consideration
According to the reports, the meeting is expected to consider various constitutional options under Articles 232 to 234 of the Constitution of Pakistan.
Proposals reportedly include the possible imposition of an emergency in 12 districts of the province, including districts merged with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa following the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) merger, or transferring certain key provincial powers to the federal government.
The discussions are expected to focus on the security situation and the constitutional measures that could be considered in response to the challenges facing the province.
### Federal Cabinet Approval May Follow
Sources cited in the reports said that if a decision is taken to impose an emergency or introduce governor’s rule, the prime minister could convene a federal cabinet meeting to seek the necessary constitutional approval.
However, no final decision has been officially confirmed, and the proposals remain subject to the outcome of the reported consultations.
The development comes amid heightened political tensions and growing concerns over law and order in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
