Armed Gangs Roaming Freely in Quetta Have Government Patronage; Humiliation of Citizens and Bribery at Eagle Squad and Checkpoints Unacceptable: JUI

Quetta (Daily Qudrat Quetta) — Under the auspices of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam District Quetta, a grand peace rally was taken out under the leadership of District Ameer Sheikh-ul-Hadith Maulana Abdul Rehman Rafiq against rising instability, killings, target killings, theft, robbery, drug trafficking, obscenity and immorality, and other crimes in the city.

Addressing the rally, District Ameer Maulana Abdul Rehman Rafiq, Secretary General Haji Ainullah Shams, Mufti Muhammad Rozi Khan, Maulana Hafiz Hussain Ahmad Sherwani, Haji Abdul Sadiq Norzai, Mir Hishmat Lehri, Hafiz Masood Ahmad Abdul Samad Haqyar, Safiullah Mengal, and other speakers said that the open activities of criminal elements and armed gangs in Quetta are a question mark on government and administrative performance. Armed gangs roaming freely in the city have government patronage, while the responsibility for rising incidents of instability lies with the government and administration. Government negligence and administrative indifference have left citizens facing insecurity.

The speakers demanded that indiscriminate action be taken against criminal elements and that those patronizing them also be brought before the law. Condemning the humiliation of ordinary citizens, unjustified stopping, and harassment at checkpoints, they said that harassing peaceful citizens of Aghbarg, Panjpai, Hana, Nohsar, and other areas in the name of counter-terrorism operations and giving them collective punishment is unacceptable in any form.

They strongly condemned the practice of police, especially the Eagle Squad, unjustifiably harassing students, youth, and ordinary citizens at checkpoints and collecting bribes from them in the city and surrounding areas, calling it an anti-people attitude, and demanded that such illegal actions be immediately stopped and the dignity and fundamental rights of citizens be ensured.

The speakers, expressing serious concern over the lack of effective action against drug trafficking, prostitution dens, illegal shisha points, and immoral activities in the city, said that these illegal activities have endangered the social environment and the future of the younger generation. Relevant institutions should take immediate and decisive measures to eliminate these crimes and take strict legal action against elements involved in these activities.

Calling the unannounced gas load-shedding and low pressure during daytime hours in Quetta a cause of severe suffering for citizens, they demanded that uninterrupted gas supply be ensured and the difficulties faced by the people be immediately resolved.

The speakers made it clear that the protection of people’s lives, property, honor, freedom, and fundamental rights is the constitutional and legal responsibility of the state and government. Instead of shirking their responsibilities, the government and administration should take practical measures to restore law and order in the city, eliminate crimes, and provide basic facilities to citizens. Leaving the people of Quetta at the mercy of criminal elements is unacceptable in any form.
